Delphi may be best known for the oracle at the sanctuary that was dedicated to Apollo. Apollo spoke through this oracle: The Pythia. This statue depicts the Delphic Oracle sitting on a tripod cauldron in a trance becoming intoxicated by hallucinogenic gases that would emerge from the floor. While in a trance the Pythia `raved`, uttering gibberish which was then translated by the priests of the temple and was consulted on everything.
